Fiber optic attenuator is an optical component which can reduce signal power in fiber optic network by inducing a fixed or variable loss. It is able to adjust to the power level of optical signals at the outputs of light sources and electrical-to-optical (E/O) converters. Fiber optic attenuator is intended for a variety of fiber connector types, such as ST, LC,FC, SC/APC, MU, FC/APC, SC, LC/APC. It is also used to test the linearity and dynamic range of photo sensors and photo detectors. Meanwhile, fiber optic attenuator uses several methods of attenuation covering air gaps, micro-bends, acoustic-optic modulators, and electro-optic modulators. It is required in cable television, communication networks such as fiber optic telephone networks and the like, in order to attenuate light transmitted through fiber optic bundles at selected locations.
