With light emitting diode (LED) as its elementary unit, LED digital display is a semiconducting display product. It is also called 7 segment LED display. The 7 Segment LED Display is consist with 7-segment digital displays and 8-segment ones, with the latter with one more LED unit (also displays one more decimal point) than the former, each segment is an individual. The diode is made from a p-n junction, when the 'p' end has a voltage at least 0.7V higher than the 'n' end, the diode will 'turn on' and allow current to follow. An LED is simply a diode that emits light when current flows. The entire 7 Segment LED Display includes three parts such as a seven-segment LED display, a latch chip and a display decoder chip. This is one of the most common ways for information display.


By the number of the figure “8” displayed, there are single digit LED display, dual digit LED display, four digit LED digital displays and so on. According to the LED units are connected, there are common anode digital displays and common cathode digital displays.


Generally speaking, there are two primarily LED components, including digital displays and dot matrix. When it concerned to digital displays, it also called 8-segment digital display is also called 8-digit display. With P representing the decimal point, 8-segment digital display is able to display words such as A, B, C, D, E, F, G, and P. In the recent years, there is also sixteen segment digital display. The digital displays usually use 10 pins, 1 pin for each segment and the other 2 interconnected pins at the common end of the digital display. The digital display is able to display time, date, temperature and other information that can be represented by digitals.


LED digit display is featured with rich color range, high brightness, low energy consumption, rapid response and convenient match with IC decoder and IC driver. Lastly, LED digital display is widely applied in digital display applications in different kinds of meters, instruments, and especially in the household appliances like air conditioners, refrigerators, microwave ovens, induction cookers and most water heaters, etc.
